Scott Shelby received his Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a clinical member of AAMFT, a Licensed Professional Counselor, and an LPC Board approved supervisor for counselor interns. Dr. Shelby is the Mental Health Coordinator for the Monroe City School District’s Safe Schools/Healthy Students program. He currently coordinates mental health services for students from nine Monroe City School sites. Additionally, he also owns a private counseling agency, Family Solutions Counseling Center (familysolutionscounseling.org), in Monroe. His expertise is providing clinical services to individuals, couples and families, assisting with issues such as marriage/couple relationship problems, parent/child difficulties, depression, adjustment to difficult transitions in life and divorce counseling for parents and children.
Dr. Shelby is a systemically trained marriage and family therapist who places primary emphasis on family dynamics and relationships to understand clients’ presenting complaints. Scott Shelby has been trained clinically by two world renowned psychotherapists, both of whom focus on brief interactional approaches to promoting lasting change within families: Wendel A. Ray, Ph.D. and Bradford P. Keeney, Ph.D.
Safeguarding the historic essence of our profession, while at the same time striving to find creative and innovative ideas to advance the profession is the primary goal Shelby has offered for his term on the state board.
