Call for Awards

LAMFT Member Awards Guidelines

Each year at the LAMFT Annual Conference, awards are given to marriage and family therapists, as well as other professionals, who have made significant contributions to the profession, the Association, and/or families in Louisiana.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the following awards:

  • Distinguished Educator
  • Distinguished Lifetime Achievement
  • Family Advocacy
  • Meritorious Service
  • Student of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year

 Distinguished Educator Award – This award recognizes a truly distinguished contribution to marriage and/or family. Outstanding contributions might be in the areas of teaching; design of teaching methodologies, curriculum, or behavior managerial techniques; research in the field of marriage and/or family; fostering and maintaining strong connections with students; encouraging and supporting students in their development as therapists; encouraging and nurturing student involvement in LAMFT and AAMFT; or being published in the field of marriage and family therapy. Nominee must be a Clinical Fellow of AAMFT/LAMFT.

Distinguished Lifetime Achievement – This award recognizes a marriage and family therapist who has a long and distinguished record of exemplary professional service. Nominee must be a Clinical Fellow of AAMFT/LAMFT.

Family Advocacy Award (previously referred to as Family Friendly Award) – This award recognizes a legislator, legislative employee, or other individual who had a major role in initiating advocacy or legislation on behalf of the profession; passing legislation on behalf of the profession; improving employment opportunities for MFTs; or supporting families in Louisiana through volunteerism.

Meritorious Service Award – This award recognizes an individual who embodies excellence and whose accomplishments are extraordinary – going above and beyond his/her compensated or volunteer position in helping families.

Outstanding Student of the Year Award – This award recognizes a current AAMFT student member in good standing, who has greatly contributed to the field of marriage and family therapy; the learning, preservation, and/or advancement of systemic thinking. Nominee must be a Student Member of AAMFT/LAMFT.

Note: Letter of nomination must give examples of how nominee displays strong academic, research, clinical abilities, and/or leadership skills. Specific consideration will be given to those who display leadership skills through their involvement in LAMFT. The accomplishments/achievements of nominees must be within the year preceding the nomination.

Volunteer of the Year Award – This award is given to show LAMFT’s deep appreciation to that member who goes above and beyond duties of employment, Board position, or faculty position in his/her contributions to the LAMFT.

Guidelines for submitting nominations:

  1. All nominations must be received by January 31, 2017.
  2. In your nomination letter, you must address all criteria for award, including specific examples. Any/all dual relationships must be disclosed in the nomination letter.
  3. Only those AAMFT members in good standing are eligible to nominate self or others.
  4. Current LAMFT Board members are not eligible to receive awards during their term of office.
  5. In rare instances, awards may be given posthumously.
